Can you replace three small living-room windows with one big picture window?
Often yes, depending on what is behind the wall and where the framing sits. We come out, check the header and the studs, and if it works we build a single picture window to span the space, which gives you far more glass and light than the three small ones did. If the wall needs to keep some support, we can pair a wide fixed pane with slim operating windows on the sides.
Do picture windows open?
No — they’re fixed, which is what makes them so efficient and gives them the biggest glass area. Pair them with casements or double-hungs alongside if you want ventilation.
Are picture windows more energy efficient?
Generally yes. With no operating parts to leak, a triple-pane picture window is the most airtight style we install.
