My Golf Manor house still has the original steel casement windows. Can you replace them with new casements?
Yes, and it's one of the more satisfying swaps we do. We take out the rusted steel unit and fit a new vinyl casement that cranks open smoothly and seals tight, keeping the same style of operation without the rust, drafts, and stuck hinges the old ones develop.
Are casement windows better than double-hung?
Neither is “better” — they’re different. Casements seal tighter and give a clearer view; double-hungs offer a classic look and tilt-in cleaning. Many homes use both, matched to each room.
