My Villa Hills basement gets damp against the foundation wall — will a new hopper help?
It helps two ways. The tilt-in sash lets you vent the humid air that builds up in a hillside basement, and the tight weatherstrip seal stops ground water and outside moisture from seeping in around a corroded old frame. Pairing it with a working sump usually clears the damp smell for good.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
