Pleasant Ridge is full of 1920s and '30s brick homes along Montgomery Road and the 45213 side streets, and those basements still run the small steel hoppers they came with. After ninety-odd years, the steel has rusted at the corners and the sash no longer pulls square against the brick, so cold air pours in and the basement holds damp. The steel basement windows in our 1920s Pleasant Ridge house are rusted solid. Are they worth replacing?
Definitely, and it's a straightforward job. We pull the rusted steel unit and custom-fit a vinyl hopper to the brick opening, so you get a window that tilts in to vent and seals tight when closed. What is a hopper window?

Do hopper windows keep water out?
