Basement Hopper Windows in Lower Price Hill

Lower Price Hill sits down in the flats near the river and Mill Creek, and its 19th-century rowhouses have some of the oldest basement openings in the city. Bulldog fits each one with a bottom-hinged hopper that vents the damp and seals tight against the ground water. Call (513) 657-2471.

Lower Price Hill

Basement Hopper Windows for Lower Price Hill homes

Lower Price Hill is one of Cincinnati's oldest working-class neighborhoods, a tight grid of brick rowhouses in 45204 that mostly predate 1900. The basements are low and damp, sitting in the flats between the river and Mill Creek, and the original window openings were cut small into stone and block. What's left in most of them is failed steel or rotted wood, and this low in the valley the moisture never really lets up.

A basement hopper is the practical answer for these old foundations. We custom-fit the fusion-welded vinyl frame to the small masonry opening, so there's no forcing a stock size into a hand-cut gap. The sash tilts in from the bottom to vent stale, damp air off the top, the multi-point lock and weatherstrip seal it against ground water and pests, and triple-pane Low-E glass with argon keeps the cold cellar wall from pulling heat out of the house. The vinyl won't rot down here the way wood always has.

Basement Windows

Built Tough for Below Grade

A hopper is essentially an awning flipped upside down — it hinges at the bottom and opens inward from the top. That makes it ideal for basements, where it vents moist air, cleans easily from inside, and seals tight against drafts and pests.

Want the bigger picture? Pair it with replacement windows or a new entry door, and ask about rolling it into one 0%-for-24-months project. For efficiency ratings, the Energy Star program is a good reference.

Common questions

Basement Hopper Windows FAQs

My Lower Price Hill rowhouse basement openings are odd sizes cut into stone. Can you still fit a hopper?

Yes, that's what custom-fit means. We measure each opening on site rather than working from a catalog size, then build the vinyl hopper to match your stone or block gap. Old hand-cut openings are common in this part of town, and fitting them properly is the whole point of the measure.

What is a hopper window?

A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.

Do hopper windows keep water out?

When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.

Can hopper windows be an egress exit?

Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
