I want to finish part of my Landen basement. Should I do the hopper windows first?
Yes, replace the windows before you frame and drywall. A failing 45040-era hopper will pump humidity behind new walls, and it's far easier to fit and seal the window before the finished surfaces go up. We can set a tight triple-pane hopper first, and if an opening will serve a bedroom we'll spec a code-compliant egress unit while access is open.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
