Our Kenwood basement window sweats and drips in winter. Will a new hopper fix that?
It goes a long way. Most of that dripping is warm, humid basement air hitting cold single-pane glass and a bare metal frame. A triple-pane hopper in a welded vinyl frame runs far warmer on the inside surface, so it doesn't condense the way the old unit does, and you can tilt it open to vent the humidity too.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
