The homes carry real age, and their short below-grade basement windows were fitted with steel units that have long since rusted and stopped sealing. In these original houses, a failed basement window means drafts, condensation, and a basement that holds its damp through the season.
Our basement hopper windows are custom-fit to those original block openings so the character of the house stays intact while the window finally seals. Our Greenhills home is one of the original planned houses. Will a new basement window look out of place?
It shouldn't. We fit the hopper to your existing block opening, so the size and proportions stay the same as the original. From outside it reads as a clean basement window, and the difference you notice is that it finally seals and vents instead of rusting shut.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
