We're finishing our Fort Mitchell basement. Should the hopper windows go in before or after?
Before, if you can manage it. Getting the hoppers sealed first means the framing and drywall go in around a watertight, draft-free opening, so you're not building over a window that still leaks. We can coordinate timing with your project, and each unit is built to the exact opening so it fits cleanly into finished walls.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
