Basement Hopper Windows FAQs
The steel basement windows in my Fairfield ranch are rusted shut. Can you replace them without tearing up the block?
Yes. We remove the old steel frame and custom-fit a new vinyl hopper into the existing masonry opening, so there's no need to cut or rebuild the block on a typical 45014 ranch. The tilt-in sash and vinyl frame drop right in and get sealed with weatherstrip and a multi-point lock. Most Fairfield basement windows are a same-day swap.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
