Basement Hopper Windows FAQs
My CUF house is dug into the hillside and water pools by the basement window. Will a hopper help?
It helps a lot once it's sealing right. A hopper closes flush with weatherstrip and a multi-point lock, so the water that pools against the well stays out instead of seeping through a rusted old sash. If the pooling is severe, we'll also flag whether the window well itself needs drainage attention.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
