The clay soil around my Amelia home stays wet. Won't a new window frame just rust like the old one?
Not this one. The frame is fusion-welded multi-chamber vinyl, so it doesn't rust or rot the way your old steel hopper did, no matter how wet the surrounding clay stays. That's the main reason vinyl replaced steel for basement windows around here.
What is a hopper window?
A window hinged at the bottom that tilts inward at the top to open. It’s the standard style for basement and other small below-grade openings.
Do hopper windows keep water out?
When closed they seal tight against the frame. We also flash the opening properly so wind-driven rain and ground moisture stay outside.
Can hopper windows be an egress exit?
Standard hoppers are usually too small for egress. If you need a code-compliant basement egress window, we can spec one — just ask at the consultation.
